Growing the perfect veggie garden - Andersen’s La Costa is hosting Mia McCarville who’ll be instructing us how to grow Tomatoes and Veggies, Wednesday evening, April 29, at 5:30 p.m. Mia is the former owner of Cedros Garden in Solana Beach. There is no cost to attend this special event, but RSVP for admittance at andersonslacosta@gmail.com with the number of people in your party; this will be your ticket.

I don’t know what I expected but all I can say is I’ll not miss another event talk with Mia. Clearly a seasoned pro at talking to and with crowds and packing a wealth of knowledge that she didn’t exaggerate on and I walked away from this knowing exactly how to plant and care for a Jetsetter Tomato as well as a variety of summer vegetables. Personally I’m not planting a farm but I do host a variety of herbs and small veggies in planters out in the yard. She was gracefully not above this role and keen to help or advise anyone willing to pick up a planting. My lasting impression; Her objective to grow fewer fruits on the plant in order to grow higher quality items “grow sweeter and juicier fruits”. I’m hers forever.
Her talks are light and witty I highly highly recommend. As for Andersen’s La Costa I applaud you for choosing such a talent and the stunning setup. Indeed I will be signing up for the newsletter in anticipation of more helpful events in a serene garden setting.

Because analogue is becoming cool again, here’s my recs on books and magazines before summer.
Anne Lamott was just here giving a talk (with her husband Neal)at Balboa Theater and honestly I had no idea she was that funny. Reading this for the first time with her voice in my head. The least boring book about writing on earth. Find here.
My husband and I listened to this on a two day road trip through Baja before we had kids and it was GRIPPING. We’d often sit in the car longer to finish a chapter. A multigenerational cowboy coming of age novel that you’ll loose sleep over. Find here first.
When you’re ready to conquer, you need a boost not just creatively but to jumpstart your intuition and motivation and all the things that come with building something that has vision, pick this book up. Life changing. Find here first.
Reading comes in all forms and reading about Francis Mallmann’s approach to life while learning how to cook is honestly super sexy. I picked it up used but find here. AND you’re not killing animals over this one, just trees.
